Let’s take a look at some basic facts about our health. Our Immune System is our body’s NATURAL DEFENCE against sickness and disease.

There are a number of ways that we can quickly and easily boost our Immune Systems. This basic preventative care only takes a few minutes each day and soon becomes part of your daily routine. Lets take a look at the main headings one by one.

ALKALISE - Your Body's Chemistry And Its Balancing Act

To be in a healthy vibrant state our bodies need to ensure that our blood is slightly ALKALINE at around 7.36 pH. When it comes to a measurement of acidity or alkalinity, pH is the measure that is used and comes on a scale from 0 to 14 with 0 being highly acidic and 14 being highly alkaline. A pH of 7 is neutral. Pure water has a pH of 7. The pH scale is logarithmic and as a result, each whole pH value, below 7 or above 7, is ten times more acidic / alkaline than the next higher value. If the perfect body ph is 7.36, then it is slightly alkaline. Cancer cannot survive in an alkaline environment. There are 3 factors involved in maintaining a healthy pH balance. 

The first is by changing your diet to one that favours alkaline foods rather than acidic foods, the second is by drinking filtered alkaline water and the third is to reduce your daily stress levels and exercise helps with this. Stress creates acid in your body and when you get stressed your muscles tense. This process creates a by-product from a chemical reaction in your muscle called lactic acid. You are more susceptible to illness when your body is run down or under sever stress. As your body gets back into the correct pH balance you will find that your energy levels increase.


Too much acidity in the body is dangerous. Diseases are often by-products of an acidic body environment, so when you "cure" them without changing your daily routine that got you there you take the risk of getting whatever it was back. High body acidity is caused primarily by the foods we eat and drink. Ideally our diet should be 80% alkaline, but in reality it’s usually just the opposite - about 80% acidic!

Animal proteins, grains, dairy products, soft drinks and sugars ... are all acidic, and are potentially going to be stored in the body as acids. (It's not so much that the food itself is acid, although it often is, but it is that the resultant by-product of digestion of that food is acidic.) This acidity causes our cells to die, and as they die off, this causes even more acidity which creates the perfect environment for parasites, yeasts, bacteria and viruses to flourish in. Eventually the body cannot cope and we fall sick and go to the Doctor who generally prescribes more acid forming drugs which also have other knock-on side effects.

To repair the body we need to bring it back into a healthier acid/alkali pH balance that supports the Immune System through a range of changes like proper nutrition, drinking clean filtered alkaline water, basic exercise at least once a day like a good 20 minute walk at minimum and reducing our intake of acid forming foods and drinks like processed foods, sugar, white flour products, red meat and animal protein, carbonated drinks, pasteurised milk, alcohol and fried foods - the rule of thumb is "If Man Made It - Don't Eat It". Our aim is to change our diet from what is typically an 80% Acid and 20% Alkaline intake to a 80% Alkaline and 20% Acid intake. It's hard to do this all at once, but even if you can initially aim for a 60% Alkaline and 40% Acid intake - then this would be a huge step in the right direction.

As regards pasteurised Milk (mentioned in our no-no list above) - Sally Fallon of the Weston Price Foundation in the United States said it like this:
“Pasteurization destroys enzymes, diminishes vitamin content, denatures fragile milk proteins, destroys vitamin B12 and vitamin B6, kills beneficial bacteria, promotes pathogens and is associated with allergies, increased tooth decay, colic in infants, growth problems in children, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease and cancer.”
When milk is pasteurised it changes the milk protein (casein) content to an inorganic form that cannot be absorbed properly by the body. When this protein cannot be broken down, it weakens your Immune System, causing allergies and many other problems. Milk is acid-forming in our body.

There are many foods that are just as high (if not higher) in calcium than dairy products. Some of these include - Oatmeal, vegetables, beans, dark leafy greens (like bok choy, kale and broccoli), moringa leaf, fish with bones (like sardines and canned salmon), carrots, figs, sesame seed, oysters, seafood, oranges and almond and brazil nuts. In many cases, non-dairy food sources of calcium can be healthier since they are also sources of other vitamins and minerals. For instance - Moringa Leaf is rich in many nutrients and has a high calcium value, pound for pound, 17 times the calcium in milk. Despite this, it is safe for all to consume, including those who are lactose intolerant, as it doesn’t contain any lactose.

In general, the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of calcium for adults is between 1,000 and 1,200 mg. A serving of milk is about 300mg of calcium, so women are supposed to be drinking around four glasses of milk per day. Vitamin D and Magnesium are both necessary for the body to use calcium and without these, calcium won’t be absorbed correctly. Calcium is also contained in good quantities in our supergreen foods that we take on a daily basis as our morning health smoothie.

We did a test to measure the pH of some soft drinks as well as some popular alcoholic drinks, using a digital pH meter. Here are our results ...

NB: The normal human stomach is highly acidic & has a pH which can range from approximately 1-3 but is usually closer to 2.

Most other fizzy soft drinks are in the high acidity range of between 2.8 and 4.8. Soft fizzy drinks and most alcoholic drinks are in the high acidity range and, as such, are causing our bodies to become acidic bodies. Also please bear in mind that soft drinks also contain a large amount of sugar in some cases up to 10 teaspoons in a 375ml can. A recent article in the Daily Mail showed that a 568 ml bottle of Bulmers Cider contained about 5 teaspoons and a standard 250ml Gin and Tonic contained 3.5 teaspoons of sugar! People who drink sugary fizzy drinks, smoke, eat chips or other fatty foods, eat ‘junk food’ or have stressful jobs all have one thing in common - acidic bodies. Acidity in the body is related to disease. Acid reflux is a painful condition that occurs when acidic stomach liquid backs up (refluxes) into the oesophagus, causing irritation, inflammation and damage to the lining of the oesophagus.

High cholesterol occurs when the body produces excessive amounts of cholesterol to neutralise large amounts of acids in the blood stream before they damage living cells. Heart disease is the result of a build-up of cholesterol in the coronary arteries that reduces the blood flow to the heart muscle. As stated above, cholesterol forms to protect the arterial wall from acidity in the blood.

Fat is also produced by the body to trap and neutralise acidic waste in the body. As Dr. Robert O. Young, author of The pH Miracle for Weight Loss, puts it, "The body retains fat as a protection against the overproduction of acids produced by the typical American diet ... Your fat is actually saving your life."
Inflammatory related diseases such as allergies, arthritis, fibromyalgia, psoriasis, and even stroke are related to low-grade metabolic acidosis. Cancer, yeasts, viruses, bacteria and other pathogens cannot survive in an alkaline body ... they all need an acidic environment to survive.

Why Not Just Drink Tap Water?
Most tap or bottled water has a neutral pH - it is neither acidic nor alkaline. Tap water is horribly unhealthy not only because it is filled with chlorine, fluoride and other additives toxic to life but there are a great deal of impurities that have not been removed.
